Ecopsychedelic Practices for Addressing Eco/Social Crises
Additional registration fee applies.

In the face of our ecological (global climate chaos, sixth mass extinction, etc.) and social crises (global resurgence of fascism, increasing military tensions and new wars, etc.), finding ways to connect with nature, address issues of environmental justice and ecoanxiety/trauma, and foster novel solutions to our problems is more important than ever. Ecopsychedelics offer a unique opportunity to do all three. This workshop will explore the intersection of ecopsychology and psychedelics through theory as well as practices that are designed to overcome the disconnections between an individual and their true self, other humans, the more-than-human world, and the ground of Being. By exploring the intersection between ecology, justice, psychology, and psychedelics, humanity may find new ways to tackle some of the most pressing challenges facing our planet today. With the psychedelic resurgence underway, the possibility of using these medicines in both clinical and environmental contexts with the intention of deepening individual connection to the planet, and our collective liberation, can help people develop a fuller understanding of the importance of working together to preserve and honor our planet by building just and sustainable societies.

Format: The session will include the following elements:

  • Practice: Participants will be guided through a number of exercises designed to help them connect with nature and foster empathy for the natural world. They will also have the opportunity to share their experiences and learn from others in the group.
  • Lecture: We will discuss the latest research and theories on nature and psychedelic use and their potential to help us heal our relationship with nature and transform unjust and unsustainable systems. A panel of practitioners will also be on hand to share their insights and answer questions.
  • Small Group Discussion: In one break out session, attendees will share their thoughts and experiences about how psychedelics can help us connect with nature on a deeper level. Another session will discuss how ecopsychedelics can be used to help address the global climate crisis, injustices, as well as other pressing environmental and social challenges.

Psychedelic Integration and Harm Reduction in Clinical Practice
***Please note that this workshop is for licensed professionals only

Psychotherapists and other healthcare providers are increasingly called upon to help clients integrate profoundly meaningful psychedelic experiences into the fabric of their daily lives, resulting in long-term positive changes. This daylong training is designed for clinicians and healthcare providers who want to learn more about current psychedelic research and clinical practice, including how to work with patients who have a history of psychedelic use or have expressed an interest in using psychedelics. The themes of spirituality, ethics, and critical discussion will be woven throughout the program with opportunities for connection, collaboration, and building community.

We will discuss recent and current clinical trials, outcomes, legal status, and what it all means for the future of psychotherapy. We then move to the practicalities of defining integration and how it can occur in a clinical setting. We focus on translating research findings into clinical practice, including working with patients who are considering using psychedelics, currently using psychedelics, or have used them in the past. This program includes discussion of assessment and integration techniques, resources, and legal and ethical issues.
Program participant clinicians will complete the training with a conceptual and practical understanding of how to engage clients in discussions about psychedelics that are balanced, reduce potential for harm, and increase the potential for benefit from these experiences.

This highly experiential workshop offers an introduction to the theoretical and practical work of Stanislav Grof, whose groundbreaking research into the value of non-ordinary states of consciousness, including psychedelic experiences, remains a bulwark of psychedelic science. Following the prohibition of using psychedelics in research in the 1970s, Stan and his late wife Christina Grof developed holotropic breathwork as a means of inviting non-ordinary states of consciousness through a combination of deep breathing, evocative music, careful attention to set and setting, and individual “energy release work” where appropriate. Supported by a team of experienced practitioners, this workshop offers both a “breathing” and “sitting” experience of Grof® Breathwork, the form of breathwork now practiced and taught internationally by Stan and his current wife Brigitte Grof under their umbrella organization Grof Legacy Training. Valuable as a training tool for supporting psychedelics experiences, Grof® Breathwork attends to careful preparation for experience; ethical, respectful and safe settings; the naturally therapeutic presence critical for effective sitting or guiding; and skillful guidance in the integrative process that follows deep experience.

Instructors include:

  • Stanislav Grof, M.A., Ph.D.
  • Brigitte Grof, MA, Ph.D. (h.c.)

Meditation and Contemplative Science for Psychedelic Practitioners
Additional registration fee applies.

This workshop will explore compassion meditation and contemplative science through insights and techniques drawn from psychology, neuroscience, and contemplative practice. Participants will be invited to experience contemplative exercises that can strengthen and sustain compassion to support resilience and address burnout. Reflective exercises explore mindsets, attitudes, and somatic strategies for building altruistic motivation and sustained compassion as a way of caring for clients and sustaining the energy, outlook, and wellbeing of the psychedelic therapist. With practice, informed compassion can become a spontaneous response that supports practitioners and their clients in moments of distress and dysregulation.

Compassion practices support spiritual health and promote generative response to suffering, thus preventing and addressing burnout. Participants will discover ways to cultivate a non-reactive, stable presence that is able to hold space for non-ordinary states of consciousness, traumatic processing, and the challenging psychedelic experiences of their clients.

Format: The session will include the following elements:

  • Practice: Participants will be guided through a series of intentional and progressive meditation practices that stabilize the mind, orient the body to sources of support, and cultivate a deepening of compassion and altruistic motivation.
  • Lecture: The neuroscience of compassion will be explored and brought into conversation with psychedelic science and therapeutic practice. A panel of contemplative psychedelic therapy practitioners will present case studies and discuss their experience of sitting with clients in challenging and distressing moments.
  • Small Group Discussion: Participants will be invited to share their experiences and challenges in a small group setting with facilitation from skilled contemplative practitioners, in order to identify practices and strategies to support their work in the field of psychedelic assisted therapies
